Stalin took control of the group only a few years later after Vladimir Lenin died in 1924, he did this by intimidating the other members. Joesph Stalin's main focus was on strengthening his control over communist Russia, to do so Stalin killed anyone who questioned his authority. The members of the Politburo feared Stalin would become a dictator if he continued to lead Russia in the manner in which he was because the "new Russia" was created so that everyone could be treated as an equal, and so they turned against Joseph Stalin. Stalin grew angry because he felt betrayed by his allies, so he decided to end all communications he had with the other original members of the rebellion. After he successfully claimed total control of Russia, Stalin began to build up his military power, with the goal to transform Russia's army into a global superpower. To do this Stalin would need time, so he decided to enter a pact with Nazi Germany to avoid unnecessary conflict. Adolf Hitler, the chancellor of Nazi Germany, broke the non-aggression acts with Russia by attacking them in, what would later be called, the "Battle of Stalingrad." Stalin saw this as an insult so he responded by declaring war on Germany and its allies. Stalin defeated Hitler's armies and then led the Red Army into Germany.
